Born October 20, 1988, in Michoacán, Mexico, Oscar’s story began on his parents’ Zamora farm. The youngest of a family of five, life in Zamora changed forever for Oscar when he began studying martial arts at age 15. A student at the local Wushu Jacona Martial Arts School, Oscar’s fiery passion for his new-found pursuit grew fast.
Martial arts became an outlet for Oscar’s natural talent, and he quickly earned the admiration of his instructors. Within just 8 short months he became a teaching assistant at the Wushu School, his first taste of what would become a lifelong love of coaching. At age 16, and after just one year of martial arts training, he competed for the very first time, taking home the first place state-level title for Combat. With this, Oscar’s competitive journey had begun.
Less than one year later, his hard work merited another opportunity to represent the Wushu School in the state-wide martial arts competition. Oscar’s impressive performance netted three first-place titles, earning the respect of his community as well as admiration from regional media and newspapers. He continued competing successfully at the national level, opening doors to television appearances that would elevate his name to national recognition. With just three years of experience, he was invited to contend at the highly competitive international level.
At age 18, Oscar returned to represent Wushu at the state-level. For the second consecutive year, he won three first place state titles, advancing to the national competition where he picked up an additional three national titles. Oscar’s talent continued to grow as quickly as his name.
